Dance has always been a part of Madhavi’s life. Her dancing career began as a toddler when her mother would dress her up along with her two sisters to dance to popular Bollywood tunes. Starting at age 3, Madhavi trained in ballet, tap, jazz, and lyrical at All That Dance in Seattle, WA. When she was a teenager Madhavi was thrilled to find a bharatanatyam (Indian classical dance) guru in Seattle and went on to complete her arangetram (3 hour introductory solo performance) under Smt. Vidyalakshmi Vinod in 2013. Madhavi has over 10 years of dance teaching experience in a variety of styles, from ballet to Bollywood. She also directed and performed in several dance groups in college, and she co- directed Harvard Ghungroo, the largest-student run show on Harvard’s campus. Madhavi has taught creative dance in many places around the world such as Morocco and South Africa. Madhavi taught as an elementary school teacher in a government school in India for two years after college, where she loved incorporating dance into her student’s daily academic subjects. Madhavi is currently pursuing her JD in international human rights law at UCLA, and she is thrilled to have the Dance 1 community to continue her passion for dance.
